Utah Gets D Minus for Prostate Health
None by KCPW
(KCPW News) The Beehive State earns a "D minus" in prostate health, primarily because it does not have a law requiring insurance companies to cover prostate screening. In fact, Utah is the only state in the nation without a health insurance mandate for both prostate and breast cancer screening. The National Prostate Cancer Coalition released the report cards today in hopes of prodding state lawmakers to enact mandate laws. Another contributor to Utah's low grade is a prostate screening rate several points lower than the national average. Only 49 percent of men in Utah get screened for prostate cancer, and Utah has the 17th highest mortality rate for prostate cancer in the nation.
