Mexican Leader Tackles Immigration Reform
President Vicente Fox shakes hands and poses for photos with members of the Mexican community in West Valley.
The crowd gave Fox a standing ovation and called the now familiar cheer of “Si se puede!” as he promised that Mexico is working to build a better future and eliminate the poverty that drives millions to immigrate illegally. “We are neighbors, friends and partners,” said Fox. He thanked Governor Jon Huntsman Junior and the Utah Legislature for allowing undocumented immigrants to get driver licenses and qualify for in-state tuition rates.
Student Mario Diaz said he was touched to hear Fox say he is proud of immigrants in Utah.
Fox praised Mexican immigrants for their hard work, integrity and commitment to family. For many in the audience, it was their first experience with the Mexican President. Following his speech, Fox was swarmed by the crowd and spent fifteen minutes shaking hands and posing for photos. This morning Fox will meet with a more elite group of Hispanic community leaders for breakfast at Rico's Mexican Market and Deli before speaking the a joint convention of the Utah Legislature. KCPW will broadcast that speech live at 11 a.m.

Third, since we have recently progressed so much, we should take part of the immigration and economic policy formation in the United States.
Fourth, thank you Utah for how you have treated Mexicans. We need your help to get further involved in your country's politics and economy.
It will be interesting to see how different people and groups react to this. This probably will infuriate conservative Republicans who do not want foreign involvement in our country. We’ll see...
