Public Hearing on Medicaid Set for Monday

None by KCPW

(KCPW News) Less than a month remains until funding dries up for low-income and disabled Utahns in need of dental or vision services. During a recent special session, state lawmakers refused to allocate the money necessary to pay for so-called "optional" Medicaid services like dental care. Monday morning, advocates hope to convince the Department of Health to sidestep lawmakers and allocate the money from its own budget.

"We were told the Department of Health could fund emergency dental, but they were worried there would be a legislative backlash if they did it without some sort of legislative approval," says Bill Tibbitts, director of the Anti-Hunger Action Committee.

The Department of Health will hold a public hearing on the issue Monday from 10 a.m. until noon at the Cannon Health Building, 288 North 1460 West in Salt Lake City.
