Wasatch Hollow Could Be Next to Get Stricter "Monster Home" Rules

(KCPW News) The Salt Lake City Council last night established more restrictive regulations on home and garage sizes in the Avenues and Capitol Hill neighborhoods. Wasatch Hollow near 17th South and 17th East could be the next Salt Lake neighborhood to embrace strict laws on so-called "monster homes."Last month, Wasatch Hollow residents voted 211 to 83 in favor of limits on roof height for garages and home additions. Community Council Chair Dan Jensen says the residents' preferences are slightly less restrictive than the new rules in the Avenues and Capitol Hill. The Salt Lake City Council has asked Wasatch Hollow to come up with a consensus proposal.
Some opponents of the zoning restrictions have contested the community council vote. Jensen says neighborhood representatives will meet Saturday to resolve the concerns, but may have to hold another vote. The Wasatch Hollow restrictions could be before City Council members by late summer.
