Cannon Under Fire
(KCPW News) Radio ads attacking Congressman Chris Cannon are scheduled to hit Utah's airwaves this week, courtesy of a Washington, D.C.-based political action committee. Team America takes a hard-line stance on border control and immigration reform. The group's chair is conservative pundit Bay Buchanan, who says the ads will quote "expose Chris Cannon's voting record in support of amnesty for undocumented workers."Cannon defends his position, saying he supported a measure to send National Guard troops to help secure the border. He also supports a guest worker program, but not complete amnesty for immigrants.
Buchanan says Team America has chosen not to donate money directly to Cannon's opponent John Jacob because such gifts are limited to $5,000. Paying for independent radio ads allows the group to spend significantly more money to influence the election.
On June 27th, Republican voters will choose between Cannon and Jacob in a 3rd District Primary.

Team America is a virulent anti-immigrant group. They are not only against illegal immigration, they are against legal immigration as well. They say they are in favor of legal immigration, but in their heart, they know what they stand for.
Some of their comments on their web site like 'We should increase the wait time for Citizenship for legal immigrants, We should reduce number of legal immigrants into this country' indicate their attitude towards legal immigrants and immigration overall. Please do not trust these xenophobic, psuedo-republicans.

An embarassed Senate, as a consequence, did scale back an intended guest worker program, which puts the estimate at 66 million new legal immigrants in the next 20 years.

It is well known that he has a vested interest in the H1/H2 visa racket and he was recently feted by the National Council of La Raza. Imagine that an organization whose name is "The Race". Considering that shylock lawyers have managed wrangle waivers for all sorts of requirements, yes, maybe we should make our requirements a bit more stringent. After all, are we so hard-up for citizens and residents that not only should we beg them, but we should harbor those who are here in violation and defiance of our laws?
As a Hispanic, I'd like to disabuse "anonymous" of hisignorance. To value and defend our country is neither xenophobic, nor a political value. Chris Cannon is a monument to the undermining effects of self interest and moral corruption on our democratic institutions.

I'm not sure if what they're reading is possibly a columnist's opinion from the "Syndicated Commentary" area or what, but Team America has no such agenda. As their mission states: "Illegal immigration is the most critical issue facing our nation today. The mission of Team America is to make this issue a significant part of the national political debate and to identify, recruit, and help elect to public office individuals who are committed to enforcing our laws and securing our borders."
Team America is not made up of xenophobes and as far as "pseudo-Repubicans", the only ones I know of are in the White House right now, not at Team America.

I'm in Georgia but have watched this issue, and Cannon, for a long time. ANY politician that says "I oppose illegal immigration and amnesty but favor an 'Earned legalization Plan,' 'Guest Worker Plan,' etc.. is a bald-faced liar. Cannon is a total liar and weasel. If you live in the third district, put up a yard sign, take three or more like minded friends to the polls. I heard the ad this morning and while the canned laughter made me uncomfortable, the facts presented are totally accurate. Cannon does support amnesty, wins numerous awards from pro-illegal groups.
His primary source of campaign donations comes from groups that benefit from illegal aliens: Immigration lawyers, restaurant association members, farmers, etc...
It seems that every year a former business associate sues him for unethical behavior. I'm surprised that Utahns want to keep him around. They should give Jacobs a chance and let Cannon experience the new Utah help helped create.

The ads being run in Utah are disingenuous (but then Team America's entire approach to the immigration is always full of exaggeration and hysteria anyway).

I could not believe Cannon's ad that stated "why would anyone run against Cannon? I guess because they can." That comment shows how out of touch Cannon is with his constituency and their frustration with his immigration record. I am tired of incumbency pride and self-righteous indignation exhibited by Cannon being so shocked that any other conservative would run against him. True conservatives won't leave the ship just do some needed housekeeping while staying on board. Let's clean Cannon's clock by voting in the primary which is basically the final election.
