Trib Cartoonist Blames Bush Administration for Radical Bent

(KCPW News) By the title of his latest book - Clueless George Is Watching You - one would think Pat Bagley has always been a bleeding heart liberal. Not true, says the Salt Lake Tribune editorial cartoonist:

"The funny thing is actually I came from BYU, and came from a fairly conservative background. I was an equal opportunity abuser, and I guess I still am. During the Clinton Administration, during Reagan, and even back to Carter, I was happy to poke fun at any of those guys. But for some reason, the Bush Administration has radicalized me."

A sequel to Clueless George Goes to War, Clueless George Is Watching You hits bookstores Thursday. It took three months to write and satirizes the Bush Administration's authorization of a secret wiretapping program by the National Security Agency. Bagley says satire is the best way to drive home a political point, and he cites a credible source:

"I think it was Martin Luther [who] said that the devil loves to be reviled, he loves to be hated, he loves for people to hate him. But the thing the devil can't stand is ridicule. So this is making our present administration look kind of ridiculous, because I think they are kind of ridiculous."

Bagley will debut Clueless George Is Watching You Thursday night at The King's English Bookshop in Salt Lake City. For a longer conversation with the political cartoonist, click here.
